Traditional Media - Re-enactment materials

Here are samples of traditional media crafts and art, for the creation of objects for experimental archaeology and re-enactment events.

 

Jerkin, late 16th C. 100% Hand-stitched ivory damask silk outer, crimson/black shot silk inner.

Velvet bonnet, late 1570s. Hand-dyed cotton velvet, silk liner, feather.

Oakeshott type XVIIIb longsword C.1450-1500AD.

Tempered carbon steel, lost-wax cast bronzes, bronze wire,

ash wood core grip and scabbard, veg-tan leather.

Oakeshott type XIV arming sword C.1325-1375AD.

Tempered carbon steel, lost-wax cast bronzes, silver inlay,

ash wood core grip with corded veg-tan leather

Early Stuart coin scales, C. 1603-1605AD:

Carbon steel, red silk, latten. sycamore.

These are an exact duplicate of an original set, dated to just after the 1603 union of the crowns.

Early dudgeon dagger, Scots, circa 1560-1610:

Forged carbon steel, boxwood.

Based on examples in the collection of the National Museum of Scotland,

Needle-case and bone needles, later Viking period: brass, bone.

Such items were commonly worn by women of all social ranks
