Produced through
1999-2000, Suzerain: Mortal Realms was released at the Gen Con UK
convention to critical acclaim. Originally conceived by Martin Klimes,
it was publicly unveiled at the preceding Gen Con convention, in the
summer of 1999, where Tree.House studio's sumptuous display and a
number of energetic demo sessions made it a convention highlight for
many.
Following the
convention previews, I joined the development of the title as it moved
from the small core concept team through to a full-scale development
team for a finished product. With extensive experience in the LRP
industry, I was recruited to contribute to the project with a responsibility
for the development of the LRP elements of the game, following positive
testing of the base concept.
This eventually
resulted in the responsibility for a section amounting to a little
under one third of the main content in the book, and further responsibility
for the development of a selection of the background concept sections
defining the game's settings.
The experience
of writing for Tree.House was one that I treasure to this day, as,
despite the inevitable difficulties, it was without doubt one of the
most enjoyable pieces of work I have ever been involved in.
My only regrets
is that it suffered terribly with distribution problems when available,
making it a rare and difficult book to find. - I can only hope someday
it is re-released and sees a wider audience.
