Object: Ring-hilted Bastard Sword

 

One of a series of commercial pieces commissioned by Mr. Matthew D'Onofrio for use in real-time online environments with "imvu.com". This is one of a large range of pieces produced as commission-based work to the client's specifications for a series of items to be made available on a pay-to-download service.

This sample from this series was chosen principally because I enjoyed making it so much - weaponry of this type can be beautifully elegant, and I particularly like the sculptural form of ring and loop quillions.

Limited to a 1K polygon limit for the pieces allowed me the leeway to create an object with considerably more sculptural detail than would be otherwise expected. The engine limitations meant that a single diffuse texture map for texturing the entire piece was required. Were this to be used in a more advanced engine with shaders I could have retained texture detail and used different shaders for the various surfaces.
